The latest development in educational communications - IPTV

What is IPTV?

IPTV is a system which allows you to use your existing university network to distribute TV and video direct to student's or lecturer's PCs or to large displays around a building.

How does it work?

Digital data "packets" of information are sent and received, in the same method as the Internet. However, IPTV information is transferred over your campus network. The benefit of this is a less congested and more efficient means of delivery. In turn, this means the quality is higher and interactive features can be included without worries about bandwidth.

What are the benefits?

IPTV replaces traditional static or paper based communication. It gives educational establishments the ability to speak to students at any location, all at the same time, and has numerous uses. IPTV can be used to deliver live TV and pre-recorded video, for example archive lectures and videos. It can be used in lobbies, cafeterias and breakout rooms, in staff rooms, in dormitories, in computer labs and offices anywhere there is a network outlet and a display.

Multiple TV channels can be developed for different groups of students and whole communication systems can be controlled from an on-site or remotely based PC.

Reflex will be running an IPTV solutions event which looks at this exciting technology and its providers in detail. For further details or to register please click here.

Tell us your views - and you could be the lucky winner of a high specification Digital Camera

If you visit our website, www.reflex.co.uk, you will see on the home page links to a number of short and easy to complete surveys. Feedback from our customers is vital for us so that we can ensure the products and services we develop are meeting your needs.

Our current surveys are looking at four important subjects:

Environmental issues - every organisation is under pressure to look at their carbon footprint - how important are green issues to you when looking at your audio visual needs? click here

Product awareness - with new products being launched all the time, how do you keep yourself informed about new products and how important is product training to you? click here

Maintenance and support - how do you currently maintain and support your equipment? Do you prefer to access ad hoc support or take out a maintenance contract? click here

Project management - how important is project management to you when you are considering a new audio visual installation? click here

Each will take you about 30 seconds to complete and everybody who completes a survey during November will be entered in a prize draw for a fabulous high specification Digital Camera. Why not visit us now at www.reflex.co.uk/surveys and tell us what you think.

Trading in tough times

Reflex MD Roland Dreesden gives his take on conducting business when the economic outlook is less than positive.

"I believe the key to a robust company is in building long term relationships. Never is this truer than in times of a potential recession."

"With our university customers, we have always looked to build long term partnerships and offer commitment, communication and support. If the only time we talk to a university is to ask for an order we're not building a relationship. We're in regular touch even when they are not actively looking to buy anything."

"Some of our customers are suffering at the moment but we are doing all we can to support them. At Reflex we like to think that our account managers are trained to manage relationships, not just expect them to happen."

"It's equally important to build successful relationships with key suppliers" comments Dreesden. "We have built strong bonds with suppliers through account management and training. Universities can see the benefits of having support from a united team."

Finally, the relationship with our own staff is paramount. "If you don't have good relationships with your own internal team, then the customer suffers. We actively encourage a 'family' feel to working for Reflex. We want our people to enjoy the experience of working here, which in turn is reflected by the level of service that the customer receives."
